Training the Teacher: A New Approach for Authoring ITSs for Teaching Decision-Making

In this article, we switch our focus from the student’s to the teacher’s problems in relation to authoring an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS). In line with this shift, we will try to answer the question: how can a teacher be guided to teach decision-making using an ITS? Accordingly, in the examination which follows the teacher will be viewed as a trainee who needs to be instructed not only in the different pedagogical strategies involved in teaching decision-making skills, but in the usage of an ITS. The implementation of our approach includes a Web-based ITS authoring tool to create learning sessions. In addition, the system uses an adaptive tutor to train instructors in teaching decision-making skills, while they are in the midst of authoring learning sessions. Our solution implies a Web-based interface agent that can learn from the interaction between teachers and the system.
